Meet Sue McLeary
Sue McLeary is a floral designer, artist, and instructor with over 20 years of experience. After 13 years dedicated to wedding and event design, Sue dove heart-first into her passion of teaching, presenting and writing about floristry. Her respect for the natural world inspires her to use floristry to spread knowledge about sustainability and advocate the usage of more responsible design principles. Whether she’s creating extravagant floral headpieces and wearable flowers or presenting a masterclass to an audience of floral enthusiasts, Sue approaches her work with grace and unwavering passion.
What is Sustainable Floristry?
Sustainable floral design is a growing movement that invites people to challenge conventional methods and make choices that lessen their negative impact on the earth and its inhabitants. It is a multifaceted movement with many different considerations. With respect to design, attention to waste reduction, rejection of single use plastics, reusing mechanics and supplies, and responsible recycling and composting of green waste are all front of mind. Conventional floral design mechanics and methods are being questioned and more florists are embracing gentler design solutions. For years, the floral industry has leaned heavily on single-use design mediums to reliably and efficiently create their work. Now, that waste heavy solution is being set aside in favor of new innovations and classic mechanics such as chicken wire, tape grids, natural armatures and pin frogs.
Floral designers are using their platforms to educate others on floral foam’s potential environmental harm. The movement’s momentum is growing and designers adopting eco-friendly methods are in search of functional containers to support unique mechanics while being beautiful and design-led.
New Spring 2024 Eco-Friendly Containers
Customer feedback largely informed our new Spring 2024 collection. With mounting requests for products with features supporting foam-free arrangements, we reached out to Sue and a beautiful partnership bloomed. By creating a collection of eco-friendly containers, we’re creating a space for all floral designers to shop regardless of their mechanics preference.
A rolled rim keeps water from sloshing during transport & allows for easily holding chicken wire, pin frog, or other floral mechanics. An open foot design fits stems all the way down to the bottom of the container for stability & support.
Add extra pizzazz to florals with a stylish accessory to the Harlow Stand, the small metal Harlow Footed Bowl. The bowl’s foot slots into the Harlow Stand frame & is open inside so that stems have extra space. Designed for eco-friendly arrangements but usable for other floral mechanics, this bowl holds a generous amount of water to keep florals fresh.

The Soprano Vase Attachment, an add-on vessel for the Soprano Archway. The watertight flared cup allows for an eco-friendly water source so that florals stay fresh longer. This cleverly engineered vase attaches to holes on the archway with a metal hoop & screw.
New Basilica Column
The Basilica Column is designed in-house & made in Poland for an artisanal floral stand for wedding. Cut-out patterns surround the column for added design interest.
