At first glance, a planter may be defined by its shape and size. But a striking color in an unexpected finish can tell a deeper story. Through layers of texture and movement, a glaze can elevate a simple container into a work of art that supports the humble houseplant while adding elevated style.

This season, our latest collection celebrates the artistry behind the finish, showcasing a range of new pots and planters in bright hues with beautiful reactive glazing. Each planter highlights the beauty of variation, and the hand-applied qualities make each piece truly unique. While every piece was designed with functional sizing in mind, it is the finish that gives each planter its personality. To better understand the techniques behind the finishes, we caught up with Caroline Woods, Product Design Manager, to explore the glazing process and the expert craftsmanship behind each product.

According to Caroline, this season’s pots and planters collection was designed to bring greater attention to the artistry of the finish itself. “We designed several heavily textured styles and several simple and smooth silhouettes that create completely different looks that allow the glaze to be the focus and leave space to show the depth and variation in the colors and finishes,” she explains. The result is a collection that showcases the subtle details that make craftsmanship so compelling.
Many of the finishes feature layered and reactive glazes, a process that creates depth and natural variation from piece to piece. Some glazes are carefully applied over textured, sandy surfaces to highlight dimension, while others pair glossy finishes with organic textures to create a finish that Caroline describes as ” beautiful and earthy.” Because each planter is hand-finished and kiln-fired, no two pieces emerge exactly alike.
Those one-of-a-kind variances are a direct result of the artisan’s interaction with each product. “Each piece’s final appearance can depend on the actual hand application of the glaze or the planter’s placement within the kiln. If a planter is in the middle, or closer to a side wall, the color may appear deeper, or lighter, due to temperature variation,” explains Caroline. “Some of our pieces are fired in a kiln multiple times due to the layering of glazes, which further adds to the variation.”

Product Highlights

“The Aurina Pot with Saucer is an easy, giftable collection because it perfectly fits drop-ins and has a sweet ruffle detail.”

“The Tallie is the collection’s most versatile option. It’s likely to attract the attention of garden centers and wholesale florists as its size is ideal for drop-in plants and floral arrangements.”

“The Almada Pot is the product the entire team wants to take home! The carved pattern is tile-like, which capitalizes on a popular trend, and the glaze is gorgeous. The unique shape and dimensions of the smaller size would complement both plants and fresh florals.”
