For this latest Get the Look installment, we tapped Accent Decor’s creative team members to share their coffee table styling tips and new décor recommendations that deserve the ultimate accolade of being placed atop coffee tables.

Tip 1: Make it personal

The coffee table is a living room’s centerpiece offering tons of decorative potential. It grounds the space, anchors the seating area and is home to the everyday cup of coffee or glass of water (with coasters, of course).

The coffee table should reflect the things your clients love most. Collected items from world travels or family heirlooms, a luxe stack of design and travel books help create a unique focal moment. Make it a space that feels good every time they enter the room.

Tip 2: Add flowers for an instant uplift

With strong roots in the floral industry, it’s no surprise that the addition of fresh or dried florals is one of our top tips. A striking vase with an abundance of florals spilling over the rim adds life and softness. Additionally, a large or medium vessel with oversized branches is an effortlessly chic statement. To approachably level up floral design skills in large-scale vessels, catch up with Founder & CEO of Napa-based Bellevue Floral Co. and lifestyle goods shop Camino, Christina Yan, and her 5 design tips.

If surface area is limited, a few sweet budvases also offer organic and natural impact. Don’t overlook a potted plant in an artful planter, succulents or even a terrarium for a green infusion. A glass vase containing a palm or monstera leaf is another way to add freshness.

Tip 3: Scale up

Arrange objects with a mix of heights, shapes and sizes. By integrating a tall or medium sized vessel or sculptural object the eye “reads” the composition by moving up and down, creating an elegant movement as the eye takes in the composition.

Tip 4: Don’t forget about function

While the coffee table is the room’s centerpiece, it’s also a work horse. Tasked with containing remote controls, snacks, drinks and the occasional child’s toy or bare feet, some breathing room is important. Be sure to leave some empty space to allow the shifting or subtracting of decorative objects and integration of snacks and drinks when entertaining or unwinding after a long day.

When selecting decorative objects, opt for a stylish tray or shallow bowl to beautifully contain everyday utility items like remote controls and smart phones.

Tip 5: Embrace seasonal shifts

Whether it’s the season’s change or the procurement of new accessories, coffee tables should evolve with year-round modifications. Unlike sizeable furniture or permanent wall art, coffee tables are fluid and easily adjustable. Encourage fluid decorative shifts with celebratory holiday décor, candles with seasonal scents and of-the-moment decorative objects.

Siwa Bowl

Understated meets sustainability with this, dark stained mango wood bowl with carved details around the base & foot. This unique versatile vessel adds an earthy warmth to interiors and serves as an eco-friendly option for home decor.

Alister Vase

Sustainably made with sturdy recycled aluminum, the tapered opening and unique patina finish of this vase gives a refined sensibility to any space. Beautiful arrangements of fresh florals, preserved stems or branches would look striking.

Gesture Trays

The art and organic shape of the stoneware tray is interesting on its own even without the addition of a secondary element. Ideal for displaying everyday household objects atop coffee tables, nightstands and shelves.

Wooden Beads

An unexpected accent of chunky wooden beads adds interesting texture when spilled over an oversized bowl or trough. Additionally, wooden beads can pull double duty as seasonal garland strung over fireplaces and Christmas trees.
