Mastering the Melora Arch: Tips from Christina Yan

Creating a romantic floral archway for weddings or a special event focal point is no small task. From framing a ceremony to setting the tone at an entrance, large-scale floral installations remain one of the most effective ways designers can deliver impact. The structure behind the flowers matters just as much as the blooms themselves.

The Melora Arch was designed with that in mind. The new streamlined metal frame engineered for straightforward floral mechanics and efficient installation delivers on both size and innovation. Available in two heights, its clean silhouette offers flexibility while still making a statement. Whether layered with abundant florals or kept minimal with sculptural greenery, its versatile shape adapts easily to a range of aesthetics and client expectations.

We connected with longtime partner and friend Christina Yan of Bellevue Floral Company, one of the first designers to put the Melora to work. Below, she shares her candid impressions along with practical insights on designing at scale while navigating the opportunities that come with added height.

What was your initial impression of the Melora Arch?
I was excited to see a narrower arch style that feels suited for more intimate installation moments whether as a complement to a welcome sign or as part of a brand activation. It’s refreshing to work with an event decor structure that isn’t limited to wedding-specific applications and can easily translate across different types of gatherings and creative settings.

How did you approach designing for this structure compared to other arches you’ve worked with?
Because the arches aren’t as wide as traditional ceremony structures, I leaned into its narrower silhouette rather than trying to overfill it. I was intentional about not overstuffing the design and even left portions of metal exposed during the shoot so viewers could really see the mechanics of the Melora.

From an educational standpoint, I love being able to showcase how Accent Decor pieces are constructed. Giving the audience a clear view of the framework helps them better understand the installation process and envision how they might design on it themselves.

You partnered with Torchio Nursery at the San Francisco Flower Mart on the floral selection. Can you share the details on the recipe?
I source frequently from Torchio Nursery and was thrilled when they offered to collaborate and supply product for the installation. I asked them to pull together their favorite blooms in a Spring-inspired palette. Coral charm peonies, yellow oncidium, butterfly ranunculus, and nerine lilies took center stage. I chose to keep the greenery minimal, using it primarily to soften the design and discreetly conceal the water containers.

During the design execution, I kept ratio and balance in mind. For example, you’ll see that the peonies are more heavily concentrated in some areas versus other spaces. I love asymmetry and the way it can draw the eye up and down throughout an installation piece.

What mood or atmosphere were you hoping to create with your installation?
Knowing the arches would release in early 2026, I was inspired to create a spring-forward installation with bold, cheerful color. Color continues to trend across the event decor world, so it felt like the right moment to lean into it.

How was your experience assembling and installing the Melora? What stood out to you?
The structure’s light weight and compact pieces really stood out. They’re easy to transport and seamlessly lock-in during assembly. While surprisingly light, the arches are strong and durable in standing position. The flat base is ideal for adding an optional sandbag or two over for additional stability.

For florists considering investing in statement structures, what should they keep in mind?
Investment is the key word! I’d start by considering the focus of your work, for example weddings versus corporate activations, and take stock of the types of structures you use most often. Before Accent Decor’s Conservatory and Arpeggio stands were introduced, I was relying on a DIY solution for clients requesting floral event decor columns. Since about 70% of my weddings asked for this style, transitioning to Accent Decor’s stands was an obvious choice.

What advice would you give florists who are newer to large-scale installations?
Practice, practice, practice! Large-scale installations demand both skill and careful time management. Invest in yourself, and your business, by purchasing product to practice with (I still do this regularly, even 10 years in!). You don’t need to build a full arch to gain experience; focusing on a single corner of a structure can help you strengthen your understanding of mechanics, timing, and scale. Always step back to reassess your work and adjust. With consistent practice, when event season arrives, you’ll be ready to hit the ground running with confidence.
