In the latest Get the Look installment, Accent Decor’s creative team members dive into the art of carefully curated console tables. These versatile tables work hard in small spaces, entry ways, hallways and bedrooms as decorative focal points providing functional and aesthetic value. Dive in to explore the team’s practical and creative tips on styling editorial-worthy console tables with thoughtful touches.

Tip 1: Create a layered look

The placement of the console is important, specifically the wall or space behind it. Placing artwork, a floor-to-ceiling or standard mirror and, of course, ambient lighting creates a total look that’s more comprehensive and interesting than placing the console against a blank wall or empty space.

Tip 2: Display an anchor

While options are virtually unlimited, a single statement piece anchors the console and gives eyes a wow-moment. Try a large-scale vessel with oversized branches, a striking vase filled with an abundance of florals spilling over the rim, or an unexpected decorative object to visually anchor the console to the wall. Think of this statement piece as the heaviest object.

Tip 3: Scale up

Arrange objects with a mix of heights, shapes and sizes. By integrating a tall or medium sized vessel or candleholders, the eye “reads” the composition by moving up and down, creating an elegant movement as it takes in the composition.

Tip 4: Choose objects carefully

Less is usually more: too many objects can look cluttered and haphazard. The more ornate the console, the less décor it requires.  Incorporate pieces that reflect personal style – and if there are too many, consider swapping pieces each season to give year-round freshness. The rule of three comes in handy when tackling the styling of a console. First incorporate something tall to create height. Then incorporate a low item, like a tray or bowl as a catch-all, and finally a mid-size item, like a potted plant or a candle with a welcoming scent.
